Booting Linux on the PS4 has been a possibility for a while now, and many users of firmware 1.76 have been able to try it. This week, developer valentinbreiz has managed to port the existing 1.76 payload to firmware 4.05, and has shared his compiled files. The hackers used exploits in FreeBSD, PS4’s operating system and WebKit, which powers the game console’s browser.Both the OS and browser are open source and vulnerable to security exploits, according to Marcan, a member of failOverflow. The PlayStation 4 is based on the x86 architecture. It is possible run Linux-based games and maybe Linux applications.
